Dominic McHugh qualified at the Middlesex Hospital in 1980. He underwent resident training at St Thomas’ Hospital and Moorfields Eye Hospital and also undertook a research project investigating the applications of semi-conductor diode lasers in ophthalmology, which led to the award of the degree of Doctor of Medicine.
Dominic has been a Consultant Ophthalmic and Vitreretinal Surgeon at King’s College Hospital since 1994, with a special interest in diseases of the retina, including diabetic retinopathy, retinal detachment and macular degeneration. He performs approximately 200 vitreoretinal procedures each year, 250 cataract operation and also laser treatments and intravitreal injections.
Dominic’s other interests include the surgical management of trauma, the diagnosis and medical management of glaucoma, and of visual loss. He also maintains an active interest in teaching and research and has over 60 publications.
